Despite the challenges the past year posed within the aviation industry, the CANSO Smart Digital Tower Task Force (SDT TF) have continued working hard in assisting the international effort for harmonised deployment of Digital Towers through developing guidance material for the benefit of ANSPs and the wider community.

At the end of 2020, the SDT TF successfully published a user-focused document intended to introduce the Digital Tower concept and support ANSPs in the decision-making process prior to or during an implementation programme. To further accompany the publication of the CANSO Guidance Material for Remote and Digital Towers, the members of the task force led a series of webinars to introduce the document, alongside providing the audience with the ability to familiarise itself further with the technological and operational aspects of the concept.

Last month, Think attended the 2021 CANSO Operations Standing Committee full working group meeting which was held virtually over the span of three days. Throughout the event, the SDT TF members gathered to look back at the accomplishments over the past year and commence planning for future activities. As part of the discussions, the members identified the need to update the existing guidelines to add further value for the users through reflecting on the current advances and uptake of the Digital Tower concept.

At Think we believe that Digital Towers are the next generation in airport Air Traffic Services. We have been central to the development of the concept from its starting point and we are looking forward to continue supporting our clients and helping them make well informed decisions regarding Digital Tower implementation programmes, while sharing our knowledge and expertise within the CANSO SDT TF.

If there are any aspects of the Digital Tower concept that you would like to discuss or if you would like to join the CANSO SDT TF, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our team!
