Airspace Change

Helping deliver successful airspace change, improving environmental performance while supporting operational needs from initial concept through to service transition.

Overview

Delivering successful airspace change is one of the biggest challenges facing airports and ANSPs today. Airspace design must respond to environmental pressures while also improving capacity, increasing efficiency, and meeting community expectations around noise. At the same time, regulatory expectations have increased, with greater emphasis on transparency, evidence, and meaningful stakeholder engagement.

In the UK, the CAP1616 process and the formation of ICCAN have raised the standard for airspace change activity. It is no longer just about flight procedure design. It now requires a wider process involving consultation, environmental and carbon assessment, economic appraisal, and structured options evaluation.

How We Can Help

Think provides independent support throughout the ACP process, from requirements capture through to options appraisal, environmental assessment, safety analysis, capacity and workload assessment, and real-time ATC simulation. We are not IFP designers, but we understand how to plan and manage the wider process to give your change the greatest chance of success.

We can act as a core part of your consultant team or as a customer’s friend, overseeing the work of other suppliers on your behalf. We also support procurement for IFP consultants and provide CAP1616 ACP training, helping you reduce risk, save cost, and build a stronger foundation for successful delivery.

Our roots are in European research programmes, with deep involvement in SESAR since 2004, from the Definition phase through Development and SESAR 2020. This gives us a strong understanding of ATM R&D, emerging technologies, and what it takes to move a concept successfully towards implementation.
